ESTAD 2025 - European Steel Technology and Application Days

From October 6 to 9, 2025, PROMECON participated in ESTAD 2025 in Verona, Italy, the international conference for the iron and steel industry. The event brought together experts, plant operators, and technology providers from around the world to discuss sustainability, digitalization, and process optimization.

For PROMECON, the conference was an opportunity to highlight the importance of reliable process data in decarbonizing steel production. Alexandra Garf delivered an engaging presentation titled “Decarbonization by Process Optimization - Off-Gas Results Using Deep View Infra-Red Technology” and demonstrated how precise off-gas analysis can increase Electric Arc Furnace efficiency and reduce CO₂ emissions.

The international perspective was equally compelling. CO₂ intensity in steelmaking varies significantly from country to country. Countries such as Italy, the USA, Canada, and Turkey demonstrate that more EAFs and fewer blast furnaces make a real difference. This is exactly where PROMECON focuses: providing reliable off-gas data to make EAFs even more efficient.

At the same time, it became clear that the energy transition is still ongoing. Many CO₂-intensive industries continue to grow even as renewables expand. That is why sharing knowledge, learning from each other, and optimizing processes based on data is essential, step by step, toward a cleaner and smarter industry.

This year’s ESTAD once again proved to be an inspiring platform for deep technical exchange and forward-thinking discussions.

  • Local steel production matters: Producing steel locally means fewer transport emissions, lower costs, and stronger resilience. Efficiency and CO₂ reduction start right at home.
  • CO₂ intensity differs by country: Germany performs slightly below average, while Italy, the USA, Canada, and Turkey show stronger progress thanks to a higher share of EAFs and fewer blast furnaces. Let’s make your EAF even more efficient with reliable off-gas analysis data.
  • No real electricity transformation yet: Steel, coal power, and other CO₂-intensive industries are still growing. Renewables help, but not enough. Let’s empower each other, share knowledge, and make the world a bit smarter. Process data is the first step.

Outlook: PROMECON will definitely be back at the next ESTAD with new insights, new solutions, and the same passion for process optimization.

ESTAD 2025 offered PROMECON valuable technical inspiration and confirmed that digital measurement systems and data-driven process optimization are critical for the future of steelmaking.

We will definitely return to continue supporting the industry on its path to more efficient and lower-carbon operations.
